Water Has Energy

Tuesday (24/02/2009)

a) Experiment: Can water move?
Each kid folded a flower craft. The petals were closed. They then took their individual bowl and filled with water. The petals poened slowly due to the water force or energy.
The kids then linked this to a plant’s absorption water using root. Is this true? A few thought so. Thus, we soaked a celery into a coloured water to leave it for a few days. Originally, a celery is green in colour? What will happen after soaking into red water?

b) Recap: water sources and video clips
The moment I drew the mountain, the kids remebered “stream, river, waterfall, sea and ocean”.
Relating to yesterday’s video clip, Ze yan said I should add a black duck due to the oil pollution.
We also drew sick fish. Jian Wei recalled the flood. Jin nan immediately said it was because we have chopped down many trees.
Justin recalled how people threw rubbish into the sea. Song Chuan said our drinking water is very dirty.

c) Owning our own land.
We imagined having own own polluted land. Thus, we had to do something. Putting up posters is one way. So, the kids chose to deal with animals first. Foo Soon suggest that we should call our sea as “Genting Sea”…haaaa…….the others agreed.

d) An origami whale
They learnt to see my folding instructions. They observed “rectangle, triangle, circle”.
Then, they wrote “whale” onto the origami paper. They decorated the whale.
