Dissection of Dragon Model

15/01/2009 (Thursday)

a) Terminology of dragons

· I drew a huge dragon on the board. The kids guided me with some parts of the body.
· They argued if dragons had nose or even 4 legs.
· I replied that nobody had actually seen a dragon. Max agreed immediately saying that unlike dinosaurs, there are bones found to fix them. Thus, any similar looking dragon is acceptable.
· We placed the flashcards.

b) Dissecting the current Dragon model.
· It was very long. Altogether it was made of 5 dustbins and cloth.
· We discussed about ways to improve the outlook. They wanted more glitterings for the skin. They wanted different eyes rather than ping pong eyes. They suggested long beard and moustache too. They were excited!

c) The sponge.
· We wanted a more meaty dragon…haaaa! So, we added some sponge into its body.
· We had an unwanted giant crocodile model made of sponge.
· Thus, we recycled the sponge and tied them into small plastic bags. Once the dragon is completely decorated, we would add in those sponge into the dragon’s long body.
· For this activity, the kids sat in a group of three and worked together.

d) Segregation of duties.
· The kids chose their desirable task. We would begin the activities tomorrow.
