Lion Dance Rehearsal

Tuesday (25/01/2011)

a) Flash cards
• We read some words as a recap of what we have learnt. Example: lion dance, horn, beard, cookies, mandarin orange, monster, celebrate, drum, cymbal and etc.

b) Lion Dance Practice
• This coming Friday would be the last day of school before Chinese New Year holiday. Thus, we planned to perform a Lion Dance presentation together with the other 6 year old class. It is similar to any Lion dance performance when they visit a home or temple. First, they would greet the owners and then perform to eat the vegetable which it would spit ad keep the red “Ang Pow” packet instead. Next, they would peel the Mandarin orange and share with others.
• The kids chose the role they want to take part. Altogether, there are 4 Lion dances involve. 2 handmade while the other 2 belong to Jun Yu and Wee Hong. The others were involved with the equipment. First, we took turn to practise. Then, all teamed up at the living hall to rehearse. The kids were good and had fun!
• Weei Xiang and Wee Hong, Zhe Qing and Yun Xin, Wee Xuan and Qian Joe, Zhi Feng and Rei Ng were the lion performers. Little Buddha: Tzen Yu and Xiang Wei. Drummer: Chun Kit. Tamborine player: Soon yu and Alisa. Cymbal: Zheng Yuan and Kwong Yong. Lion dance assistants are Chia Yen, Xing Tong, Jia Xun and Yee Xuan.

c) Invitation
• On Friday afternoon, we decided to invite 6 year old friends to our class for CNY celebration. The class voted and more than half prefer 6 year old class to 4 and 5 year old. We discussed activities to carry out. We would have some food and the kids requested to play the huge ball game. The players who dropped the ball would have their face painted. We will also sing our favourite English version of Chinese New Year song.
