a)
Police.
l
Kids were very interested at
police. Whenever they played in the morning, they loved the role-play.
l
Thus, Jun Qian brought a
storybook on police to share with the class. It’s about USA police.
l
Barney brought BJ to the police
station for a tour.
Uniform: Kids learnt about their uniforms
and their gadgets. These include beeper, badge, handcuff, belt, cap, a baton
and also a gun.
Outdoor duties: They helped at accident
scenes, at parade scenes, they patrol at neighbourhoods to prevent crime.
Traffic police helps to ease the jam. They summon drivers who go against the
traffic rules. Police dogs are trained to sniff items and tracked the
criminals. I gave them an example of kidnappers.
Indoor activities: Indoor police officers
monitor the city situation through computer and screen. If there was an
accident, they could see through the CCTV and send immediate help. If the
public called 999, the operators would connect them to the appropriate
department such as fire brigade or ambulance.
l
Police job could be dangerous
although it helps the society a lot.
l
The book also briefly
introduced the patrol car which has got a siren for emergency. It also has a
radio on its dashboard. Patrol cars of different countries are of different
colour.
b)
Video Clip.
l
We watched clips on the traffic
police motorbikes and also police cars. Generally, they drive Proton Waja.
However, some also drive 4 wheel drive vehicles for special tasks. We also
watched their various duties.
c)
Role-Play.
l
This time round, the kids went
out to playground and play. They rode on cars as police cars. They discussed
amongst themselves on their roles without my interference. Roles: traffic
police, tow truck driver, thief, traffic lights, police station and ambulance.
