Little Builders.
Tuesday (21/02/2012)

a) Vocabulary.

l We recapped on words learnt: holiday, map, Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Petronas Twin Towers, sky bridge, office, shopping mall, antennas, architect.

b) Being a builder.
l Previously, we learnt that buildings need strong structures to stand. That’s the reason why underground Petronas Twin Towers is lots of steels to hold the towers’ weight. Architects draw the plans but builders build them.

c) Team work.
l Shapes: triangle and square. Structures normally come in these shapes.
Materials: newspapers, cellophane tape, scissors and unity spirit.
Instructions: 6 years old were divided into 2 teams. Each team had to form as many triangles as possible. 5 years old were to roll as many newspaper as possible.
l To make the triangle shape, kids got to work together to paste the rolls with cellophantape.

d) Process.
l 5 years old found it challenging to roll the papers. 6 years old found it challenging to roll the paper into solid form. Most rolls were soft and unsuitable for building activities.
l 6 years old were excited that they designed their own building without my guidance. They observed my miniature paper building. 5 years old got motivated that they started forming their own triangles.
l I had to go round and supervise the solidity of the rolls. Finally, we had 3 different structures but kids were looking forward to a tall tower or building. We shall diagnose this tomorrow.
