My Beautiful Malaysia.

Friday (17/02/2012)

a) My Malaysia.

Objective: Discovering the kids’ knowledge about Malaysia.
Xing En: We have lots of beautiful plants.
Teacher: Yes, just like the flower you saw yesterday, bougainvillea.
Ying Qiao: We have many animals.
Teacher: We have Orang Utan or ape and it is a protected animal.
Si Suen: We have many trees.
Teacher: Some trees are reserved because Malaysia protects its rainforest especially in Pahang and East Malaysia. Recently, a man from Kedah was jailed because he chopped off a Meranti tree which was reserved. The tree is the home of many animals. It also avoids flood.
Shawn: How? (We talked about the root).
Wei Lok: We have water.
Tzen Yu: Where does water from our toilet bowl go? Does it go to the river like the tap water?
Teacher: they go to a place call sewage and disinfected and some processed into fertilizer. Class: EEww…..our fruit trees!
Teacher: Don’t worry! And the water is very healthy for plant growth.
Hiro: Are there shopping centres in America?
Teacher: Of course, shopping centres are everywhere. In fact, America is more developed than Malaysia.
Jia Xun: Teacher, I’ve brought a booklet on Disneyland. (About 3 kids have been to Disneyland. They briefly told us about things found there).
Teacher: Malaysia has many attractions. Can you name some?
Class: Cameron Highlands, Port Dickson, Pulau Pangkor, Johor and many more!
l I sketched the map of Malaysia and we learnt the states names.

b) Video Clips: My Beautiful Malaysia.
* Kids watched the different famous attractions from each state. Among: Turtles on Pulau Redang beach, jungles in Taman Negara, Malacca’s delicious food and the famous Langkawi.
* I introduced the meaning of Landmark briefly.

c) Song: It’s A Small World.
* We read the lyrics. Kids asked me some words they weren’t sure of. Then, we sang together.
It's a world of laughter, A world of tears. It's a world of hopes, And a world of fears. There's so much that we share, That it's time we're aware, It's a small world after all.
Chorus: It's a small world after all. It's a small world after all. It's a small world after all. It's a small, small world.
There is just one moon, And one golden sun. And a smile means, Friendship to every one. Though the mountains divide, And the oceans are wide, It's a small world after all.
