Bean Sprout

Friday (13/05/2011)

a) The Bean Sprout.
• The first experiment failed when we used egg paper carton to plant the seeds. We learnt that all types of paper absorb water. Then, our second experiment; we used plastic containers. They grew nicely however we totally forgot about the weekends of who’s gonna water the plants. Probably, we were too busy with mother’s Day that we for about the poor plants. This time, the third experiment; everything went smooth. Yun Xin suggested that we bring home our plants to continue planting it.
• We talked about the bean’s growth. Step 1: The bean or seed is planted either into the soil but we used cotton in the class. Step 2: With water and sunlight, the first root will grow. Step 3, a little stem can be seen and the plant shoots higher. A small leaf has grown. Step 4, It grows taller and more leves can be seen. The bean parts are wilting soon.
• This little plant is known as bean sprout and is a nutritious vegetable.
Kids: What happens if we leave the plant for a long time?
• If you bring home, you ca transfer into a pot or soil and it will grows taller and become a tree plant that produces green beans…..wow!

b) Picture Recording
• The kids recorded their experiment onto the paper. They drew the 4 stages picture.

c) Chun Kit, the caretaker.
• 2 weeks ago, the kids and I have discussed about our Pet Freshwater Turtle. “Who’s gonna take care of Girlny and Boyny” at the weekends? The kids love to volunteer. However, they have to get parents’ permission first. Then, kids must inform me so that I can call their parents to verify. Chun Kit was the first, followed by Zheng Yuan, Zhe Qing and Yun Xin. Chun Kit told me that if we want to free the turtles, his father has welcomed our good deeds into his temple pond. 
• The caretaker just needs to change water daily and feed the turtles with provided palettes. Kids can play with them but hands must be washed thoroughly for hygiene. The objective: to cultivate responsibility among kids and able to follow guidelines well.
