The Gift Idea

Monday (04/05/2011)

a) Vocabulary Recap
• We recapped words learnt throughout the unit.

b) Diagnosing Experiment
• In conjunction with Earth Day, the kids planted beans because they believed more plants will make the works a better place. However, it was so strange that the plants didn’t grow and the reason was because the egg paper carton used to contain the seeds; actually absorbed all the water we gave to the beans. Hmm…..paper do absorb water. Thus, we used small plastic cups to plant. The kids were so excited to say good words to their little plants.
• We also had a container kept in the dark and another with no water. According to Tzen Yu and Wee Hong, sunlight is not needed for plant growth.

c) Rei’s puzzle.
• Edison, Rei’s brother gave her this puzzle. “Dig a hole in the sand. Water it just like making an ocean. Cover it with sand. Where’s the water? No……it’s not in the hole anymore! It has disappeared!”
• Kids were excited to guess. Most 6 years old said the water will be absorbed by the sand just like our cotton absorbed water to enable the seeds growth. Wee Hong even said that the sun probably also has dried the water. Nobody know the exact answer; thus, we had another plastic cup filled with water and we placed it on the shelf. What will happen to it tomorrow?

d) Our Mother.
• First, the kids guessed the meaning of “Mothers’ Day”. Then, they talked about their mother and what they do together with them. Most of them helped their mother to do housework such as sweeping the floor, assist with cooking, washing her car, massaging her, treat grandmother well as this will make our mother proud and etc.

e) What gift?
• We talked about the gift for our mother. Among were flowers, sun, stars, lollipops, love, fishes and etc. We thought of making it more exciting. Thus, I introduced a mini wheel cart game whereby the kids have to think of 6 quizzes for their mother. If she can answer all 6, then only will we give her the second gift.  Thus, we discussed about the quizzes.

f) Craft: Wheelcart Heart colouring
• Each kid took a Heart shape and coloured beautifully….to be continued.
