Warm up

Tuesday (05/05/2009)

a) Don’t waste food!
Le Xin carried a bowl of noodles from the kitchen. Unfortunately, she couldn’t finish them.
However, I told her that we would wait for her to finish while conducting the class. Eventually, sitting in a corner of our classroom, she finished them.
So many people die every day because of insufficient food. I promised them that we would be watching a video clip on “don’t waste food” on the next lesson.

b)Warm up
What is warm up? Eugene said it’s when we let our body heat up before playing a game or sports.
Sharlene said we might faint if we ignore warm-up. Foo Soon said we might injure our body too.
Ze Yan said our bones might break. I introduced the word “fracture” and “bandage”.
A fractured person need a cast or a good bandage to hold the bones so that they would grow and form strong again. Thus, they had to rest about 2 – 3 months depending on the situation.

c) Warm up exercises
We spread around and started the “mountain” pose. Then, we exercised our arms, elbows, fingers. Next, our knees, ankles, waist and also our neck. Finally, we sat down to stretch our body. We tried touching our toes with our fingers. Some kids were able to while some weren’t so. Then, we lifted our leg slowly. We also lifeted our both legs up. Half were able to while the others complained of pain…….haaa!
Frequent exercise would avoid the pain. Our muscle would be stronger then.

d) Pitching the ball.
We first watched a video clip on “rounders and baseball”.
We summarized that there are 2 teams, the runners run fast, their eyes must always be alert and they must listen attentively.
I was the Umpire or referee. The 2 teams called “Lin Dan” and “Lee Chong Wei”.
First, they queued in a line. I use the racquet as a bat. They were excited taking turns to throw the ball in whatever ways they could.
Then, they queued in 2 lines. Every kid took turn to pitch the paper ball. I explained that in a baseball game, the balls must be pitched or thrown properly. Otherwise, it would be called a “Unqualified ball”.

e) Feedback.
* Half of the kids required this game to be continued. However, the girls preferred to be the cheerleader team. We would try this activity for another 2 times before deciding the outcome. “Never Give Up!” is the sports spirit.
