My Recycled Painting.

Tuesday (14/09/2010)
a) My Story.
· The kids were excited to take their television set. Everyone’s story was about Mother Theresa except Jun Yu who did about his holidays; as he went for holidays our lessons about Mother Theresa. Jun Yu said he wanted to draw about his holiday srather than about Mother Theresa; which I allowed. He was excited to share about the porcuppine fish (soft thorns, teacher), stingray, shark and also jellyfish. He was in Taiwan with his family.
· As for the others, I had a 1 to 1 session with them guiding them with the story before coming in front of the class to present for their friends. They were quite dependent at telling the story and encouragement was needed.
· Then, we practiced the storyline together. I used present tense so that it’s easier for the kids to grasp. Among the lines: “Mother Theresa was a kind person. She was caring like Care Bears. She liked helping poor people. She gave food to them. She liked helping kids with no mother. She liked helping sick people. She put them in a small hospital. She liked helping handicapped people. Thank you, Mother Theresa. You are our HERO!” And we sang “Heal The World” for her. J

b) Sharing and Painting.
· I took out the kids’ work on the recycled newspaper similar to the gift given to Aunty.
Teacher: Who can share with our new friends, what these are?
Xing Tong: They are recycled newspaper.
Yun Xin: Wow…the newspaper has hardened.
Qian Joe: They looked like stones.
Xing Tong: We want to bring home for family.
Shawn: What about us? What are we going to do?
· I introduced the painting colour. Purple, white, orange and green.
· The 4-year old kids wanted to paint their own pictures. Thus, each was given a cardboard and I guided them at drawing. Then, they started painting.
· The kids were very excited when it comes to painting.
· Some, even mixed colour and the outcome was very nice.
Wee Hong: How can we get pink?
Yun Xin: My father said “red and white”.
Teacher: Purple and white gives us light purple.
