Clockwise or Anti-clockwise?

24/06/2008 (Tuesday)

a) I like playing with friends!
i) Today, most kids came early. Thus, they quickly gathered for their Corner Playing.
They enjoyed playing in a bigger group.
ii) Today, I did flashcards on 4 words: Mercury, Venus, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. M,
SYu, JN and YP were independent while the others needed more guidance.

b) Flash cards
i) I did flashcards on the Solar System. Then we arranged them in sequence as
follows: The Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
and Pluto. The kids identified the words and came to paste onto the board,
individually.
ii) We looked at EG’s Solar System Chart. We recapped on the planets’ sizes. The
biggest planet to the smallest are as follows: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune,
Earth, Mars, Mercury, Venus and Pluto. Then, we labeled the number on the class
chart.

c) Clockwise or Anti-Clockwise?
i) We identified our left and right hands. So, we sang a modified song of “Hokey Pokey”:
“Put your right hand up,
And put your right hand down,
Put your right hand up,
And you shaked it all about,
And do the hokey-pokey,
And turn yourself around,
That is all about.”
ii) First, we observed the movement of the class clock. It moves from top right to
top left. This is called “clockwise”. So, we spun around like a clock!
From EG’s Solar Chart, we learnt that the planets spin anti-clockwise way. So,
we spun ourselves pretending to be planets…….they were dizzy!
iii) Next, we observed the ceiling fan. It spun anti-clockwise. Then we observed
the wall fan. It spun clockwise way. The kids were very enthusiastic.

d) Continuation of hand-made Rocket
i) We continued with our hand-made Rocket. Each kid took a few pieces of colour paper.
They were either blue or red colour. They used the scissors to cut them into small
rectangle pieces. We would paste them onto our bottles and can also decorate
windows on them. This activity is helpful as it strengthens the kids’ motor
skills. JN, ZY, M, YZ, SYu, SJ, XR were very attentive at this.
ii) Meanwhile, I called the kids individually to make the cones for their rockets. Some kids who have finished cutting, continued colouring their pictures on the trip to PetroScience. Today, only EG brought a bottle. I hope the other kids would remember to bring them tomorrow.
