In Search Of The Sandman

20/06/2008 (Friday)

a) Space book: Exercise 1
The joyous kids drank their water and chose their activities. Nowadays, they would not only cook for me but also for their friends. They even cooked for the astronauts in the spaceship.
Meanwhile, I called the kids individually to do their“Spacebook”: Exercise 1. In this exercise, they learn to recognize the words related to Space. Among the words include: Spacecraft, comets, asteroids, meteorites, black holes, planets and stars. The kids were quite independent in identifying. Among them, WY and JH showed good understanding.

b) Story-telling: In Search Of The Sandman
After clearing the toys, the kids requested to sing “The Space” song. Thus, we sang together and even recited the poem on “The Spaceship”. Then, we did a story-telling on“In search Of The Sandman”. It was a very interesting fictional story book. The kids were very attentive and enthusiastic about it!
A Professor had difficulty to sleep. He read a book whereby he had to search for a “Sandman” who could give him some magic spells. The Sandman lived in Lunak Planet. So, he flew in his spacecraft or spaceship to Lunak. Unfortunately, the Sandman had gone to another planet. Thus, the Professor went searching for him. Along the journey, he encountered a lot of thrilling experience such as the Giants, the huge birds, the huge insects. Finally, he found the Sandman in Saturnex Planet. Thus, the Professor received the spell not only for himself but also for many sleepless children. As some of my kids have sleepless afternoons at times, maybe they could think of the Sandman before they sleep soundly.

c) The Spaceship and numbers
After tea break, the children learnt to read the number words. It was from 1 until 10. Thus, this included: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
Then, we discussed Exercise 3 of the “Space Book”. There was a spaceship carrying many people and animals. They learnt to count and read. These included:
“One spaceship, Two elephants, Three tigers, Four Spaceman, Five Spacewomen, Six kangaroos, Seven bears and Eight lions”.
Then, the kids wrote the words into their Space Books. LX, XR, WY, ZYg, JW, JHg required some guidance while the others were quite independent.

d) Reward and Homework
We gathered to look at Exercise 2. It involved counting the numbers of stars, rockets and Saturns. They had to bring it home and do together with their parents. Then, they need to colour them.
Before leaving the glass, I rewarded the kids with some jellies to appreciate their determination. I gave some star stickers to a few kids who were very determined with Exercise 3. They included SYu, SJ, M, SY, ZY, EG and SC.
