Planetarium and Petroscience

19/06/2008 (Thursday)

a) Phonics reinforcement
Some kids looked tired today including WY and J. Haa……probably yesterday’s trip had made them tired……but it was a good training for them especially for their muscle built-up. The kids chose their Corner Playing activities. Meanwhile, I called each kid for their Individual Phonics Reading. I ran through the “in” phonics with them. The words included: “bin, tin, fin, pin, win”. Then, I practiced the Exercise 2 together. This is to strengthen their reading and understanding skill as they had to match the sentences to the relevant pictures.

b) Time
Next, we did some reinforcement on “time”. My objective today was to focus on 15 and 30 minutes. I divided the class to “boys” and “girls” group. First, we learnt together. Next, I tested them on time. Examples: 1.00, 2.00, 3.00, 6.30, 8.30, 9.15, 11.15, 12.15. The girls were better and faster. The boys caught up with them too. They were excited about time and the game.

c) Sharings of an unforgettable trip
After tea break, the kids gathered for sharing. We talked about yesterday’s trip.
Teacher : Where did you go yesterday, kids?
JN : We went to Planetarium.
Teacher : What did you see?
Eg : A spaceship and its sleeping bag.
ZY : There was also a rocket.
SYu : There were many stars.
LX : Planets too.
YP : There was a slide.
Teacher : The slide was called “The Blackhole”.
Next, they talked about KFC and KLCC. They went to PetroScience.
Teacher : Could you remember about PetroScience?
M : There was a helicopter. We boarded on the helicopter.
SY : I could see the elephant.
ZYg : I could see the dinosaur.
WY : There were F1 cars…….we drove in them.
ZY : There was Earthquake experiment.
JW : There were the shooting balls game.
Eg : There was the handprint mould.
The kids could recap very well and I kept reminding them to speak in English. They tried. Some actually spoke English initially and then changed to mandarin once they got excited. The determined kids who tried were JN, YP, SYu, J, LX and JW.

d) My favourite pictures!
After speaking, the kids learnt to put their thoughts on the paper. Zyg drew a huge dinosaur as he liked it while WY drew a huge tiger. WY requested to colour at home and I allowed hm to do so. J and SJ drew the experience while they boarded the lift. Most of them drew the F1 cars and the helicopter. They were very enthusiastic about them. I believe the kids will definitely learn faster when their interest is there.
