It’s my friend’s birthday!

25/06/2008 (Wednesday)

a) Individual Focus
i) Most kids chose colouring than Corner Playing today. They chose their favourite pictures of
SPACE and coloured them.
ii) Meanwhile, I called the kids individually to do their Exercise 2 of Phonics book “im”. The
sentences included:
* A tin in a tin.
* A tin in a bin.
* A bin in a bin.
* A tin and a bin in a bin.

b) Grandfather’s Clock and time
i) We talked about “Grandfather’s Clock”. The kids had never seen such a big clock before. The
loud chimes of the clock attracted their attention.
ii) To reinforce “reading of time”, we read the Rhyme “Hickory Dickory Dock” and sang them.

“Hickory Dickory Dock,
The mouse ran up the clock,
The clock struck one,
The mouse ran down,
Hickory Dickory Dock,
Tick Tock.”

iii) The kids did 2 types of movements. One involving their whole body. The other one involving
only their arms. They giggled as they sang.
iv) I tested them on the time. Example: 1 o’clock, 3 o’clock, 4.15, 5.30, 8 o’clock. Only a few are
really independent. With family’s encouragement, they will be better readers.

c) WY’s birthday!
i) Today was WY’s birthday. The kids arranged the tables and chairs. They distributed the drinks. They had Pandan Cake and loved it. WY was rather shy to be the central of attention. WY and his friends helped distributing the cake to the teachers.

d) Continuation of hand-made Rocket
i) More kids brought their bottles. The others chose the school’s recycled bottles..
ii) They learnt to paste the pieces of coloured paper onto their bottles. They learnt to share and to be responsible with their work. YP and JH kept washing their hands because their fingers were sticky. LX, ZJ, WY, YW, EG needed more encouragement. ZY, JN, SY, SYu, YZ and M were more independent.
